Valentine's Day

Joe and I have never been big on big valentine's days.  We normally do something low-key at home.  Last year we made baked ziti, had some chianti, and watched The Godfather (the first one).  I know, I know... could it get anymore romantic?

This year we stuck with the Italian cooking theme and tried to make Chicago Style Pizza.  We wanted to learn how to make this for two reasons....
1. This tops Joe's list of things missed from back home; and
2. Whenever anyone in Barcelona asks about typical Chicago food, we tell them about the pizza.  And somehow we promise to make it for them one day so they can experience it's awesomeness.

Now before you continue reading thinking you're going to learn the secret to a great homemade Chicago Style Pizza, let me just say that the end result was just shy of awful!  The dough was way too thick and didn't cook through, we put about 2 pounds too much of cheese on there, and the sauce was watery.

While the pizza was bad... really bad, we still had fun making it.  And we should definitely get an A for effort because we made everything from scratch.  FROM SCRATCH (dough, sauce, everything).... for those that knew my cooking capabilities from a few years back, this is revolutionary!

See pizza slideshow below...
We had such high hopes before we put it in!

Ummm.... not exactly the 'look' we were going for.

I actually suggested just throwing the entire pan away instead of trying to handle this mess.
