Barcelona Snow Day!

The biggest snow fall in 10-15 years hit Barcelona today. To say the city shutdown would be the understatement of the century. Buses and trains weren’t running, street lights weren’t working, IT systems were crashing, cell phones weren’t connecting… you get the point. Chaos. Joe was sent home early from school, and my english students all cancelled.  The government is recommending people stay in until the situation gets better. They are also recommending you use chains on your wheels if you must drive.

So how much snow fell? They are estimating the center of BCN (where we live) got 6-7 cm… no, not inches, centimeters. Chicagoans, please stop judging. We weren’t making fun of you when you were wearing flip flops last week when it hit 40 degrees.

Joe was one of many snowstorm victims, as he was forced to walk more than an hour from school until he reached a working train station!

UPDATE 1: Joe wants me to note that he actually walked 2.5 hours in the snow... pobrecito :( 
UPDATE 2:  Even though all evidence of snow in the center was gone the next morning, Joe had an official snow-day!
